Beer Mecca in Madrid!
Madrid has a few stellar beer joints (Fabrica Maravillas, ANIMAL, and Irreale, among others), but there's a new shop in the popular Huertas district that's bucking the local-is-better trend among Madrid beer fanatics and betting international.
Mas Que Cerveza is an international beer shop specializing in a selection of choice brews from every country under the sun: from the light lagers of the Caribbean to Russia's heavy stouts and everything in between. I'm American, and was happy to find a small but well-curated selection of nostalgic American craft beers like Sierra Nevada, Flying Dog, and Anchor Steam.
They also have a Gin Club but I'm not a big gin fan so didn't inquire. I did see that they have a nice selection of imported tonics and artisanal gins, always a good sign. The prices are reasonable (if not a bit high), but the selection is great. It's an overview of the world's great beers without getting too beer-snobbish about things. Check it out if you're getting a bit sick of Madrid's ubiquitous cañas of Mahou.
