Martyrs' Memorial

The Martyrs' Memorial is on St. Gile's Street, in Oxford, north of the historic center of the city. The memorial is a large stone monument that's on par with Mary Magdalen church right in front of Balliol College. It's a memorial to remember the 16th century massacre of the Oxford martyrs. It was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, and was built in 1841, and opened two years later. They say this part of the cathedral was destroyed. It's Victorian Gothic style. The statues there represent 3 of the most famous Protestant martyrs. They were made by Henry Weekes. The monument is inscribed as a historical monument in Oxford.
