The backbone of it all
Market Street is the city's main street. Bern, in fact, is a very tiny town, well at least the old town is tiny. And Market street is the backbone of it all. If you want to explore the city on foot (recommended) you just have to take this street from Central Station and walk to the end, toward the river. You'll pass through several places and occasionally cross a street. You'll realize that there are only three streets in Bern. But, Marktgasse is a magical street with something special. The fountains in the centre are spectacular. Perhaps it's the trams that give it a special touch. Perhaps its the green Oberland walls.
Perhaps its the endless arcades. Or maybe its the underground rooms that give it a hidden and secret life. Taste and see.
