Market of Malé
The name comes from the Sanskrit Male (Mahaalay) and means "big house", even though it is a small island, and even though the 2004 Tsunami flooded almost one third of the island, it really does have a lot to see. It has all the most important services like banks, ATMs, souvenir shops, and a market. The market is very interesting to visit, the main commodity is the fishing boats, that capture tuna. You can also find fruits and vegetables, although most come from other islands. There are also "stalls" where you can find rolled cigarettes with .. newspaper! Or try the betel leaves
