Comme une signature, même s’il s’agit d’un hommage, la statue du fondateur de la citadelle bisontine siège dans la zone entre premiers et seconds remparts. On le voit concentré sur les plans de construction, se figurant ce qui deviendra un chef d’œuvre d’architecture et de patrimoine du XVIIIème siècle.
Cette statue de l’ingénieur du roi est l’œuvre du sculpteur Franc-comtois Pierre Duc, pour commémorer le tricentenaire de la mort du maréchal de Vauban, en rendant hommage à son adaptabilité au terrain et ses compétences de tacticien militaire.
