Maramures: Ieud Church

The Church of leud is considered the oldest building like this in Maramures as it was built in 1364. Ieud was one of the first villages in Maramures to be inhabited. Inside the church there are Byzantine-style paintings done by the painter Alexander Ponehalschi dating back to 1782. The Church was named a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Many of the churches of Maramures are closed, you have to ask someone in the village to open it for you or call the person in charge of the church.
