Gentle giants

Excellent

If there's one animal that epitomizes Thailand, apart from the ubiquitous monkeys, it's the elephant. We were lucky enough to go on an elephant ride through the jungle and we also saw plenty of examples of these animals' amazing abilities. They played basketball, painted pictures, played musical instruments...it was an amazing day for me, as I love elephants. At first, I wondered if the elephant was comfortable, but I realized that these animals would have no problem carrying ten of me! They're really amazing to see...so large, but kind and gentle. Of course, you have to try not to anger them because there have been cases of people killed by elephants.

The Thais revere elephants and there are special events with contests of strength, exhibitions, etc, often in front of the King of Thailand. It's so sad to realize that these gorgeous animals are hunted and killed elsewhere for their tusks.
