Loch Duich
Many people think that the famous Eilean Donan Castle is in the middle of a single lake, which is easy to identify. However, the castle is where the waters of two lakes meet and this is something that can be seen easily on a clear day. Looking at the side of the castle that the water enters, to our left, we see the waters of Loch Duich. Whereas if one looks to the right, we can see the much quieter waters of Loch Alsh. But perhaps the most interesting thing about this lake is it's legend. In Scotland, the Sirens were half-woman, half seal. Many years ago, three of these beings met three brothers who were fishing in the area.
After a night of fun, these boys stole the skins of the girl-seals. But one of them repented and returned the skin, which culminated in an affair that lasted until the boy died. The other two brothers were convicted and one woman even burned her skin in anger and fear. Such folklore in such a magical place as Eilean Donan Castle is mesmerising.
