Underground spa
Matera is famous for caves, at this hotel you can sleep in a cave, eat in a cave and swim in a cave. The comfortable hotel rooms are spread over three levels and most include a small balcony area or sun terrace. These outdoor spots are well suited to watching lesser kestrels circling over the rooftops. The buffet breakfast is excellent with local cheeses, bread and biscuits available. The piece de resistance however is the spa. The rock cistern at the base of hotel has been converted into a caldarium, tepidarium and pool with hydro massage. Use of the spa costs 10 euros and includes bathrobe and swimming hat.
