A hidden gem
Not many people have heard of this hidden gem, one of the most interesting places in the United States. Little Five Points is about 15 minutes from Downtown Atlanta. Here you'll find street musicians, craft brewers, tattoo shops, sushi houses, second-hand clothing stores, poets, rock bars and the occasional scruffy type who hasn't bathed in a week. I want to particularly highlight two record stores: Criminal Records and Wax N Facts. The first specializes in indie music, and is a monstrous store where you're sure to find something interesting. The second offers used, good-condition vinyls. These two shops ooze history!
You can escape the streets here, too, and find historic houses. But be careful if you're tempted to move to this hippie paradise ... despite the hot Atlanta weather, not one of these houses has air conditioning, so as to keep electricity low. One interesting thing is that in the 70's, the governor tried to build a highway through this area. The locals brought a court case and won, and since then Little Five Points has been known as Georgia's rebel town.
