1 review of Linlithgow

A friendly people from a small village in Scotland

Excellent

Linlithgow is a Royal Burgh famous for its palace and church, of great historical significance, but mostly for being the birthplace of Mary Stuart, or Mary Queen of Scots. It is about 30 miles from Edinburgh and Stirling and about 50 miles from Glasgow. It is much more than just a church, as it is a village that almost reached city status by its size and because it has all the facilities needed. On a hill is the palace and church, which is next to a lake that shares its name with the village. Around them the city was developed, with the lovely views and surroundings that we enjoy during our visit.

The patron saint is San Miguel and the motto of the city is: St. Michael is kind to strangers. This can be found in an 18th-century sculpture. And it's true. its its greatest virtue, a population much more than friendly to make every effort to smile and make our stay more enjoyable. King James I declared this town Royal Burgh in the fifteenth century palace and renewing its making this town a fashionable location at the time. Hence the many prestigious historic buildings that we see, as the market cross, town hall, public buildings, churches and others of similar importance. In my view it is a very attractive corner full of possibilities, very doable from Edinburgh or Stirling, which should not be passed in our stay high for this fringe of Scotland, but it is so little touted as ignored (with justification) by visitors. We can even rent boats to relax in the calm waters of the lake, with incredible views of the palace.
