Magical and evocative

A magical and evocative place, away from the crowd of Arles but that can still be reached on foot in just 10 minutes from the amphitheater. The tour is accompanied on both sides by numerous remains of Roman tombs of this necropolis, bordered by rows of cypresses that convey a feeling of stillness. We were fortunate to visit the place when it was almost empty. In the background there is a church with an image leading to the temple. The image, perhaps stolen by thieves or turned to dust by time, must preside ever entry. We could not visit the church, not sure if it usually is closed for the May Day holiday.

Perhaps for the same reason we visited the place without paying.

Pure impressionism

Impresionismo en estado puro

Excellent
A visit to the "Champs Elysees" of Arles. A dream place, full of beautiful impressionist unsurpassed. Important milestone Camino de Santiago before their entry into Spain. Les Alyscamps necropolis is one of the best preserved in Europe. They come from the Roman and cemetery served the city until almost the modern age. Listed in the World Heritage city of Arles. Gauguin and Van Gogh portrayed here in a sublime, capturing the color, feelings and above all the feeling that envelops you once you step on this long avenue of tombs and sarcophagi, ending in the beautiful church of Saint-Honorat. The sun and shadow intertwine in a harmonious play of light. The sunlight consigen sometimes pierced by branches of the trees creating ghostly moments of great beauty. Green is the absolute king of this place. I have no doubt that the great masters who painted here feel tremendously inspired by the melancholy of the place. A serene place to walk calmly and very photogenic, ideal for those art lovers ;). It can be very interesting to visit in autumn when the leaves of the trees pass from deep green to golden yellow.
