A treasure collection
The Oxus treasure, of Persian descent between the fifth and fourth centuries BC, discovered in the region of Takht-I Tajikistan, is currently in Room 52 of the British Museum. It is the largest collection of gold and silver art from the Achaemenid Persian period that remains today. Currently, about 170 objects remain. Experts believe these pieces have been collected over a long period of time, perhaps in a temple. The treasury contains many types of pieces: pots, small replicas of horse-drawn carriages, signet rings, rings, coins, different types of personal items...
The name comes from the Oxus River (the name of the banks where the treasure was found).
