professional staff, delicious dishes
There are so many restaurants and bistros in Sarlat which makes it difficult to choose one for lunch or dinner. The last time we were there we decided to try Le Regent out of curiosity. The owner of the Bistrot, another restaurant that we like a lot, had changed to Regent and and brought the chef with him. The restaurant is in the center of Place de la Liberté, in the heart of Old Town. We ate on the terrace on the first floor, which has magnificent views of the plaza and of all the surrounding buildings. We liked it a lot. The staff are the very professional and the dishes were absolutely delicious.
The menu is 19.50 and it allowed me to try the classic flavors of the region, magret de canard and pommes à la Sarladaise + cheese or dessert to choose (the walnut sponge cake with custard is traditional). There are also other menus for 24 and 26 €. During the week they offer lower prices; The Découverte menu is € 13.20. Keep in mind that wine can make a considerable difference on the check. Sometimes it is better to order a glass instead of a bottle. Also, if you want to ask for water, do not ask for bottled, instead ask for "une carafe d'eau" which is a jug of tap water just like it is in Madrid, good and free. In France everybody does this. In the picture you can see the Place de la Liberté with its busy and famous Saturday market and in the background, you can see the Regent Terrace as well.
