2 reviews of Las Salinas Port

Las Salinas Port

On the island of Oleron, Salinas Port is a modest dock located on the western side. This place is located between the road leading to the bridge-viaduct, the claires oysters and the state forest and is an interesting demonstration of the use of salt in the area. The tour begins at the Eco-museum, where several brightly colored cabins reflect the history of this ancient craft. This explains the extraction of salt and other work connected with the sea such as fishing. Through interactive exhibits, animations, sound and video, you can learn the secrets of one of the traditions of the island of Oleron.

You will see the organization and purchase of salt and algae-based products in the warehouse of salt. To admire the originality of the fauna and flora of the marshes, you can take a boat trip, leaving the fishing port that provides access to the channel surrounding the "jas" (mussel bed). On the promenade, (called "quai des Hôtes"), you'll find a wide selection of local products. Enjoy this beautiful harbor!
