Las Lisas
Las Lisas is a coastal town in the region of Santa Rosa, Chiquimulilla in Guatemala. You can reach it by bus from Chiquimulilla, then you have to board a canal boat to reach the village. It is a very quiet place, with a temperature of 30 degrees all year and a water temperature of 25 degrees. The Pacific Ocean can be very treacherous so take care when swimming. The "shoals" are deposits of sand in the sea that can create strong currents. The people are part Mayan and part Caribbean, many arrived when slavery when abolished or came from the mountains of Quiche in search of work in the sugar cane crops.
There are many fishermen and sailors with strong traditions. In the evening, the music is loud and the centre of town is filled with dancing, eating on the street and people drinking local beer. There is very little traffic on the roads. The main activities are fishing, diving (though visibility can be poor), taking a ride in a boat and bird watching.
