Close to Bellingham - and freight trains
When we made reservations here the agent said something about not having spots left that were far from the train tracks. We did not think twice about it until about 10 p.m. our first night – when it sounded like a freight train was barreling through our tent! Larrabee occupies a narrow spot of land next to Bellingham Bay, within sight of the San Juan Islands and practically within skateboarding distance of Bellingham. Luckily, train traffic was not too high the time we spent here, and the short walk out to the rocky coast made up for the inconvenience of the middle-of-the-night noise. Convenient, too, was the closeness of the park to Bellingham, the Northwest’s uber-cool college and granola destination.
