Natural pool with silica mud algae and salt
The Blue Lagoon, or Bláa lónið in Icelandic, is 1 of the most touristy places, and the most rewarding. This is a huge pool filled with water that is of a distinctive color from volcanic springs. It is about 40 minutes from Reykjavik Keflavik and 15 from where we were staying. It was one of the 1st places we visited. Everything in the Blue Lagoon is incredible. The volcanic landscape of the Reykjanes Peninsula which took us to get there, to begin with. Then there are the columns of steam that rose from the Svartsengi power station, along the banks of the Blue Lagoon. Inside is all prepared for the comfort and well-being of the visitors.
There are towels, bathrobes, dressing rooms, cafes, restaurants, stores ... Everything is controlled with a wrist-band you get when entering and serves as payment. The water is hot, but you soon get accustomed to it, and the air temperature is about 15 º. Besides fun, the Blue Lagoon is comforting for the body, as its waters are rich in silica mud, algae and salt. These waters and mud have generated its own brand of beauty and health. I already said it was very touristy. Only the color of the water and steam columns worth visiting the Blue Lagoon and make a few pictures. Yes, the price is a bit expensive and usually has a lot of people. As the hours are very widespread, try to go early or midweek.
