A Must-see Wine Cellar

Excellent

In the Estación neighborhood of Haro one can find most of the oldest and classic wine cellars of the region of La Rioja, known as La Rioja Alta. The Bodega of the same name is a hundred-year-old wine cellar, with excellent wines and a special touch of "classic among the classics". In fact, the local wines such as Viña Ardanza are very famous even to those ve do not like wine.

The visit to the wine cellar costs 6€ and you get a tour through the different rooms of the cellar and the different processes of the wine. It is a nice way to see how and where excellent wines such as Viña Alberdi, Viña Arana, Viña Ardanza and the "Grandes Reservas 904 and 890" sleep. I thought the visit was quite rushed, maybe because we were many in the group. Luckily, the wine cellar was definitely worth it and I love the wines they make there, so I completely forgot about this small detail.

Although most of the wine they produce nowadays is made in new installations on the road of Labastida, the rooms in Haro are huge. There is the barrel-making, the area of the vats, the decanters, the numerous bottle racks, the "cemetery" and the huge area of barrels. The wine cellar also has modern installations that are very well prepared and where companies can organize wine tasting courses for their employees, etc. Last, even though the wine cellar is in La Rioja, they also insist on other wine cellars of the same group elsewhere in Spain, especially Áster, located in La Ribera del Duero, and Lagar de Cervera, an "albariño" (variety of white grapes from Galicia) produced in Pontevedra.

It is a lovely experience to see how and where one of my favorite wines is made. As I said before, a hundred-years-old, classic among the classics, which was able to adapt to modern time in a wonderful and successful way.
