Great for meat lovers
Yesterday I was in the Northern part of La Palma for dinner and we dicided to go to La Pradera. I always had great memories of this restaurant from when I was a kid with my family, but it wasn’t what I remembered.
To get to the restaurant, you have to go to Barlovento, in the North of the island. The restaurant is between the urban nucleus and the camping zone by Barlovento’s lagoon.
There’s a sign that indicates when the restaurant is 100 meters away. It’s visible from the road.
Upon arrival, I was surprised to find the restaurant half empty. That always seems to discourage me when I go to a restaurant to dine, although I wouldn’t want it completely full, either. There was hardly anyone more than a few señores having a drink at the bar.
We ordered a little bit of everything. We had a garbanzo bean dish to start with and then “Encebollado” cod and onions, as well as a steak with fries for the main course.
The garbanzos were excellent.
The second dishes were the meat and potatoes of our meal. The steak was simply incredible. It was a delight to our palates and, for the size, eight Euros seemed like a reasonable price. But the cod and onions was the deception of the night. It wasn’t worth the nine Euro price at all.
The service was excellent (although it’s also true we were the only ones in the dining area). The drink and appetizer prices were consistent with the rest of the island.
Overall, La Pradera is a great place to eat meat and have some wine. Next time I want cod, I’ll go to Portugal, where I’m sure it will be worth it.
