Traditional tapas on Cava Baja
La Peonza is a traditional-style tapas joint on Cava Baja, downtown Madrid's hotspot for tapas and drinks. While La Peonza isn't one of the more famous joints on the street, it's a good place if you're looking to have some well-made traditional Spanish tapas for a good price and not have to suffer the sometimes suffocating crowds which plague some of the more popular tapas places on Cava Baja.
The menu items revolve around egg dishes (the eggs with ham and potatoes, a staple of Madrileño cuisine, were delicious), toasts covered with savory treats like pork loin with caramelized onions, and the standard Madrid tapas fare of patatas bravas, fried calamari, and the like.
