Hospital, monastery and fort
La Maison-Dieu was founded in the 11th century by Robert the Pious after his return from the Holy Land. The aim of this hospital-monastery was to provide food and shelter for poor and ill pilgrims. It is a resort in which we highlight:-The Octogone-an interesting octagonal structure --which was constructed in the early 12th century after the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. This former funeral chapel was made up of 2 rooms, on the bottom floor is the ossuary while the upper level, topped with a lovely dome-Anjou-XIII century, was to house the prayer chapel. - Chapel of Saint-Laurent-an old monastic church of the Maison-Dieu in which stands a lovely facade from the 12th century, and a frieze of Gothic bill which decorates the top of it showing scenes from the New Testament.
