La chiesa parrocchiale dell’Assunta e il Porticato delle Cappelle a Mergozzo

La parrocchiale di Mergozzo, dedicata alla Vergine Assunta, si presenta con una struttura barocca, ma le sue origini risalgono al 1133 come testimonia un documento ritrovato. Nel 1600 venne completamente rifatta e modernizzata successivamente per volere del vescovo Bescapè. Di grande impatto è l’ingresso principale, con quattro colonne e la facciata decorata, sulle guglie i quattro Evangelisti, quattro angioletti e la Vergine Assunta. Al suo interno troviamo opere di grande interesse, come la pala d’altare della navata del 1623 e il pulpito in stile barocco del 1629. Dal sagrato della chiesa si accede al bellissimo porticato del XVIII secolo, dove è rappresentata la Via Crucis con quattordici cappelle che raccontano la passione di Cristo. Gli affreschi sono opera di Giovan Battista Ronchelli, del 1752. Recenti restauri hanno riportato alla luce le magnifiche tonalità delle pitture, grazie all’intervento del Gruppo Archeologico Mergozzo.

The parish of Mergozzo, dedicated to the Virgin, is a Baroque structure, but its origins date back to 1133 as evidenced by a document found. In 1600 it was completely rebuilt and modernized later at the behest of Bishop Bescapè. Of great impact is the main entrance, with four columns and a decorated façade, the spiers of the four Evangelists, four angels and the Virgin of the Assumption. Inside are works of great interest, such as the altarpiece of 1623 the nave and the pulpit in the Baroque style of 1629. From the church courtyard leads to the beautiful eighteenth-century portico, which depicts the Stations of the Cross with fourteen chapels that tell the passion of Christ. The frescoes are the work of Giovan Battista Ronchelli, 1752. Recent renovations have brought to light the magnificent shades of paint, thanks to the intervention of the Archaeological Group Mergozzo.
