Church of Saint Véran

Il villaggio di Fontaine de Vaucluse è un sito di grande bellezza dove numerosi scrittori e poeti trovarono in passato il luogo ideale dove vivere e dove trarre ispirazione. Passeggiando per le vie possiamo scoprire numerosi patrimoni storici, fra i quali la Chiesa di Saint Veran, edificio religioso del XI secolo costruito sui resti di un antico priorato esistente già nel X secolo che custodiva le tombe e le reliquie dei santi. L’interno della chiesa si presenta in un’unica navata a tre campate, con cappelle laterali sorrette da colonne romane. Appena varcato l’ingresso principale voltandoci possiamo ammirare il dipinto di Saint Veran che sottomette il mostro leggendario. La narrazione tradizionale racconta il difficile compito di Saint Veran di liberare la regione di un mostro, metà dragone e metà serpente, chiamato Couloubre, che terrorizzava gli abitanti del villaggio. Il Santo guidato dalla grazia divina si sbarazzò di questa bestia malefica e feroce compiendo il famoso miracolo, liberando così il paese e la sorgente Sorgue da questa creatura alata. La Chiesa di Saint Veran è sicuramente un luogo meraviglioso di culto, dove leggenda e mistero mistico donano una gran forza di pace interiore.

The village of Fontaine de Vaucluse is a site of great beauty where numerous writers and poets in the past found the perfect place to live and where to get inspiration. Walking through the streets we can discover numerous historic heritages, including the Church of Saint Veran, religious building of the XI century, built on the remains of an ancient priory existing already in the tenth century which guarded the tombs and relics of saints. The interior of the church is in a single three-bay nave with side chapels supported by Roman columns. Just go through the main entrance voltandoci we can admire the painting of Saint Veran who submits the legendary monster. The traditional narrative recounts the difficult task of Saint Veran to rid the region of a monster, half dragon and half serpent, called Couloubre, who terrorized the villagers. The Holy guided by divine grace got rid of this evil and ferocious beast making the famous miracle, thus freeing the country and the source of the Sorgue this winged creature. The Church of Saint Veran is definitely a wonderful place of worship, where legend and mystery mystical give a great deal of inner peace force.
