Learn about Ice Age animals found in Los Angeles
While Los Angeles is well known as a bustling metropolis, it's easy to overlook the fact that part of the region is a gold mine for Ice Age fossils. The La Brea Tar Pits is a great place to visit to learn about what life was like for animals during the Pleistocene Epoch. Visitors can explore the tar pits on site for free. Admission into the museum is up to $12 (the price for adults) where visitors can look at the skeletons of animals that were alive during the Ice Age, explore the Pleistocene Garden, observe paleontologists work on fossils, and participate in an excavation tour when available. There’s an additional cost of up to $4 for watching 3-D movies shown inside the museum.
Members of the Natural History Museum receive free admission and free tickets to 3-D shows. A paid parking lot ($10) is located right behind the museum. It tends to fill up on weekends, in which case, there’s another lot available closer to LACMA. The La Brea Tar Pits & Museum is a place filled with fascinating information that is absolutely worth a visit!
