Koenji

El terremoto de 1923 cambió el destino de Koenji que hasta ese momento era poco más que unos cuantos templos y un asentamiento de granjeros y luego por el abaratamiento del terreno, facilitaría el asentamiento de muchos trabajadores y mercaderes. En los años 50 se popularizó por el comienzo del festival Awa Odori, que se celebra en agosto, y que es en la actualidad uno de los más importantes de Tokio y en el que hay todo un despliegue de música y baile tradicional. El movimiento punk llegó a Tokio en los años 70 y 80 a través de Koenji por lo que aún ahora hay muchos locales de música en vivo. Es un barrio juvenil con muchos restaurantes pequeños y cafés alternativos, con un ambiente muy propio.

The earthquake of 1923 changed the fate of Koenji, which until that time was little more than a few temples and a settlement of farmers and then because of the cheapening of the land, would facilitate the settlement of many workers and merchants. In the 50s it was popularized by the beginning of the Awa Odori festival, which is celebrated in August, and which is currently one of the most important in Tokyo and in which there is a whole display of traditional music and dance. The punk movement came to Tokyo in the 70s and 80s through Koenji, so even now there are many live music venues. It is a youth neighborhood with many small restaurants and alternative cafes, with a very own atmosphere.
