Ko Pha Ngan

When we headed for Koh Pha Ngan, we feared that we'd be greeted with hordes of tourists clogging up the beaches and rampaging through the nightclubs. And, while it is still a tourist-oriented island, it was actually one of the places what we most enjoyed during out trip through the islands.

To visit the island, I recommend renting a scooter (the island is full of rental places) and explore the less-visited cliffs, jungles, and beaches away from the tourist centers. I'd also recommend hiring a tour to the Mu Ko An Thong Natural Park and see some of the virgin beaches and go snorkeling in the reefs.

Ko Phan Ghan is synonymous with full moon party. This extraordinary party is held on the beach during full moon days. Drugs, alcohol, fire juggling, music and excesses, they are all present during this time. But you can also find other attractions on the island such as yoga or Thai massage centers. To the north there is a small cove called Bottle Cove which is really quiet. You have to negotiate with one of the fishermen to bring you closer to it. Worth it.

This island is relatively less touristy and is perfect is you're looking to escape the bustle of Phuket or Koh Samui. There are lots of pretty beaches where it'll just be you relaxing and the local fisherman loading and unloading their catch.

Thailand, and especially Koh Samui and its surrounding islands such as Ko Pha Ngan, are the most impressive and beautiful places I´ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. The people, the tropical climate, its beaches, and all kinds of activities such as a ride on an elephant, a show of cobras, tigers with whom you photos, temples etc ... Samui and its archipelago are incredible and unforgettable.
