Matterhorn

We took a train from Geneva to Zermatt (which is about a 4 hour trip) just to see the Matterhorn. We didn't even go for the skiing, we went for the 10-month beverages. It's amazing how it protrudes nearly 4,500 meters above the other mountains, and that's what it looks like from anywhere in the town, whether you're walking, on the train, or, of course, from the ski resort (the largest and most beautiful in Europe), which you can get to by the Gornertgatbahn travem for about 50 CHF.

Open all year round, and just two cable cars rides from Zermatt, is the summit of the Klein Matterhorn. The trip in the second cable car is vertiginous. Once at the top, you go through a tunnel about 150m through the mountain to get to the restaurant and viewpoint. In the tunnel, there are several branches with bay windows to see the glacier. The restaurant has magnificent views but it's expensive!

Great feeling to be up there and see the giant mountain!!

Can't beat the beautiful town of Zermatt with the Matterhorn in the background...
