A sleepy village
Kettlebridge and Kingskettle is a sleepy village that owes its existence to the mining industry. This area was known to the Romans as Caledonia, and the history of the region goes back a long time. Apparently the village was originally called Holekettle, maybe because of its location in a depression between valleys, and the existence of several hot springs, which can often be found along the River Eden. Currently known as Kettle, it is famous in Scotland for being the birthplace of the Singing Kettle, TV comedians. There are some remarkable old buildings here, including a splendid old church.
