Founded in 1889, named in honor of August Kestner. The collection is oriented towards the applied arts. It has an Egyptian section which covers the period from the fourth millennium BC to the Roman-Christian period. It houses many objects, such as sculptures, steles, pottery, amulets, papyri and burial objects. Emphasizes applied art and design in Europe, manuscripts, textiles, bronze, ivory and gold work of the Middle Ages.
