Kefren Valley Temple

The temple of the Valley of Khafre is next to the Great Sphinx. There is an entrance at this point, where the box office is less crowded than if you go through the main entrance with all the tour buses. This temple was part of the funerary complex along with the pyramid, which is where the pharaoh was buried. There was a covered tunnel linking the temple with the pyramid. The purpose of these temples is not really understood, some say it was for the mummification process, where the Pharaoh was prepared and then carried in a wooden boat toward the pyramid, others say it was used for the ceremony of "opening the mouth", when the divine spirit penetrated the body of the deceased.
