It is worth it to take your own vehicle to do this tour if you are planning to later visit Zimbabwe or Zambia, but if you just want to get close to see the Victoria Falls and do some activity I recommend you arrange for the organized tour from your hotel in Kasane. If however you are reluctant to plan your travels, you can go to the border and leave your car parked, walk across and get a taxi which will cost about 10 euros per person after much haggling, and after all that haggling, you will probably get in an absolutely filthy piece of junk. If you're on your own you will have to do a lot of paperwork (there is an incredible amount of paperwork to be completed) it can cost you money and major headache.
