Kangaroo Island

In a country like Australia, you get used to having to travel long distances to get anywhere. In fact, the immense distances and open spaces are part of the country's charm. Kangaroo Island is about 13km from the mainland, on the southern coast, and you can get there in a comfortable ferry for about $50 (about an hour by boat) or on plane from Adelaide. As an island, it has become something of a marsupial sanctuary.

Kangaroo Island is a fairly large island (around the size of Bali) located off the South Australian coast, just 30 minutes from Adelaide by plane, or three hours by car. The crossing from the mainland takes less than an hour by ferry.
