Gorgeous walk
Gorgeous walk with walkways, running parallel to the river Uhaitza. 4 kilometers in total (round trip) and a round trip lasts 2 hours. The tour begins through the forest, and as we move into the tunnel, a spectacular gorge emerges. Approximately 1 kilometer on slippery wooden walkways, first take a moment to appreciate the vertical walls. The wooden floor, the stone, that reaches a cascade of unknown origin. A few meters through a cave with stalactites ends the tour. Beautiful! Do the return journey. You should wear comfortable shoes and some warm clothes, even in summer. There is a lot of moisture, only a little light enters, leaving visitors prone to slipping.
With a little care, children from 3 years can accompany adults on this trail. There are no railing sections with very slippery stone right next to the river. It is perhaps the most "dangerous" part of the route, if you go with them. Admission costs 4.50 € adult and children up to 6 years pay about 3 euros. There are sections in a helmet is advisable, to protect against possible landslides. Nets line the route for protection. There are several places where helmets are provided (are free). But as usual, not everyone leaves them where they belong. There are sections with emergency phones. If storms are approaching, an alarm sounds for return, since the possibility of flooding could be imminent. It is closed from November 15 to March 15, and in heavy rains. If it is sunny or drizzling, you must visit this part of the Basque Country. A pleasant place. Not far from here is the impressive Holtzarte gateway, a bridge featured in the Indiana Jones films, not for people with vertigo!, You can see another gorge from above. But this is for another visit!
