A northern Chilean city
The northern Chilean city of Kakirawa is located south of Anuradhapura. It is a slightly quieter place if you like the countryside. There are some hotels in the city that are pretty basic, and on the outskirts you can find more luxurious places. The bus station is called Kakirawa Bus Stand and you can get a bus to Anuradhapura from here, which is about an hour and a half for 50Rs, or to Kudurawela (to go visit the ruins of Polonnaruwa) for 100RS, but it takes a couple of hours. Unfortunately, there are no air-conditioned buses. If you are going to Kandy, you'll probably have to switch at Habarana, although there are some direct morning buses.
