Very green and beautiful

This is a very green and beautiful corner of Scotland. Jedburgh is an hour away from Edinburgh, heading south. It used to be on the main road to London, but now there's a faster highway. It's really only for lovers of beautiful scenery, and not so much for people who want to get to the south fast. There are lush rolling hills, with little vegetation, typical of Scotland. But the part near Jedburgh is greener, with forests and plenty of nature-related activities. You can go camping, an activity that isn't regulated in Scotland. Theoretically, any field is good for setting up your tent, and no one will say anything because all the fields are public property.

Famous abbey

Jedburgh is one of the so-called "Real Villages of Borders" (Roxburghshire) and is 10 miles from the English border along the river Jed, a tributary of the River Teviot. It was founded by the Augustinian monks from Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and previously, France. Currently, it has about 4,000 inhabitants and is visited mainly for the ruins of its famous abbey. It's almost been reduced to a residential town, but its inhabitants are very proud of their historical past and to be part of the Scottish Border. It also has a market of medieval origins. The locals always emphasize in conversations that the town has one of the oldest Rugby teams in the UK and that Mary Queen of Scots once passed through the village, with a museum that commemorates her.
