Poitou-Charentes
In the heart of Cognac country
In the province of Charente, Jarnac there is a charming little town situated on the banks of the river. From the bridge there is a beautiful view of the docks and islands and the Maison Courvoisier, a spectacular Louis XIII style pavilion that will surprise you. Jarnac is also famous for being the burial place of the former President of the Republic, François Mitterrand. The springs on both sides of the river are part of city life. You can also see the manor houses if you go for a more quiet stroll around the river on the small "Chabot". This wine village is also home to the Chais Tiffon gallery, a great example of industrial architecture from the late 19th Century.
