Wonderful
This is where the famous novel by Mario Vargas Llosa, "La Fiesta del Chivo", begins. The protagonist, Urania Cabral, returns to Santo Domingo and leaves the hotel. It's a five star hotel with bombastic architecture that's ideally located. In its day, it was one of the best in town. Today, it has fallen a little behind. The rooms are clamouring for reform. But it still has great stuff. The breakfast is excellent. The service is the friendliest I have encountered and above all, it has a pool from which you can watch the sunrise (opens at 6:00 am) without the noise from the unbearable Malecon. It's a typical American chain hotel, perhaps a little too big with long corridors (if your room is at the far wing, you'll get a great workout) and somewhat impersonal.
