If you want to see a definition of the word chaos, you just have to shop around the neighbourhood of Jamia Nagar in Delhi. This multi-ethnic neighbourhood is predominantly Muslim, so it is best known as the Muslim Quarter of Old Delhi. Walking its streets, you'll find yourself assaulted by all kinds of odours as you go down what passes for a pavement, trying not to step on a stand of meat or vegetables, or get your foot run over by a bicycle wheel. There are crows lurking around the butchers, looking for food, and the electric network is a tangle of thick wire, almost like a sun canopy protecting the street.
