Antoine D'Audigier
An interesting sculpture
Among the statues in the French market, Jacques the butcher has his mouth open, probably frozen as he offers his meat to passersby. This bronze statue is the work of sculptor Eric Kaposta and was built in 1983 at the request of the Friends of the French market. The particular style of the character - with a big mustache and bowler hat - offers some clues about life at the beginning of the first public market in the United States.
