The fascinating Giovanna

Excellent

In the same room I can observe one of the most beautiful portraits and the one I consider to be the icon of the museum: the "Portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni" by Domenico Ghirlandaio. Both fascinating characters, the portrait and the painter. About her: we know that her maiden name was Giovanna Albizzi, who belonged to one of the most important families in Florence and who married Lorenzo Tornabuoni, which means that the Albizzi and Medicis families made up with each other. But Giovanna died a year and a half after the wedding and the husband, grief-stricken, ordered Domenico to make a portrait of the deceased in order to always remember her.
