1 review of Itag Tribes

An interesting tribe not westernized

In Itag the most interesting is the people. In this village close to the border of Sudan and Ethiopia one can learn about the customs of tribes like the Nuer and Anuak , as these tribes that have not been westernized as much as the refugees living in Gambela. In Itag there are still tribal customs that left me amazed. I can tell you that when we turned the imam of the tribe, which is the most respected and wisest, to whom all others show respect, the 1st thing he did was spit on the head of one of my classmates. I was amazed, and the guide told us that it was a ritual to give luck, so Jorge had no choice but to feel grateful.

It was mesmerizing, I loved it, the people are poor, and enjoy the day. You see as with anything the kids are happy, in the rainy season, what they to do was play in the small puddles , which as you can imagine were full of dirt and were a source of infection. Most of these people are engaged in farming on a very small scale. All life only in the street and the woman is responsible for everything from taking the wood to babysit. Here we observe very well the physical differences of people from the rest of Ethiopians. The Nuer are very thin and also very tall in this area, all bear the marks on the forehead. The people are very friendly and we had no problem in the area, indeed, all were delighted to see us and were very hospitable.
