This trendy market is called the Isabela Gourmet Market
Yeah, let’s get it out of the way. This place is posh and trendy. And yes, the prices are higher than usual. But, once again, Madrid has reinvented itself and hit the nail right on the head.
There are two floors. The first floor is more oriented around to-go food, Spanish hams, foie gras, and olives. But it’s the second floor that makes this “market” stand out. You can find stalls offering Mexican and Peruvian food alongside others offering oysters, prawns, and sushi. The place is quite charming, pleasant, and is always impeccably clean. The tables are nice and high, so you can while standing, and there’s an interior terrace where you can sample the goods non-stop.
The Peruvian food and drink stall is worth a mention of its own. The vendor kindly explains the various products and makes great recommendations for those who are new to Peruvian cuisine. At his side is a lovely Peruvian woman ready to cook up whatever you please. We ordered a beef dish that was a 10 out of 10. Really delicious! We also got two pisco sours to drink, but I think they need some getting used to.
And finally, you can’t miss the mobile gin stall. In less than a minute, you can have an expertly-prepared Martin Miller’s with Seagram’s tonic to fortify you while you continue exploring the market.
