Nurse Queen

This sculpture, created by sculptor René Cliquet, welcomes us to Mont des Arts. Located at the beginning of the gardens of the Place de L'Albertine, compared to that of her husband King Albert, is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth of Belgium, known for its love of culture. Queen Elizabeth is known as "the queen nurse", as during the German invasion of World War I, the sovereign refused to leave Belgium and remained four years with the Belgian army in the trenches of Yser.
