Mining activity

Since Roman times it is known that minerals were extracted in Aiako Harriak-Peñas de Aya. It was in the beginning of the XX century when mining became the city's main activity. Iron carbonate was removed to be burned later in the ovens of Irugurutzeta, which made it rust. When this activity ended the furnaces closed, but they have reopened (Sundays and holidays), like the gallery it makes known this activity of the time. Hours are: 10.30 - 11.30 - 13.00 and reservations are necessary. The tourist train goes from the city center to the rural neighborhood of Meaka where the furnaces are located.

CURIOUS TO SEE

CURIOSO DE VER

No tengo nada mas que decir de estos hornos, simplemente es impresionante descubrir que cosas nos rodean tan cerquita de casa y poca gente conoce.
I have nothing more to say of these furnaces, it is simply stunning to discover that things around us so close to home and few people know.
