Estátua de Iracema Guardiã

This is definitely one of the tourist icons of the city, with the statue of Iracema. Iracema is the main character and the title of a book by Joss de Alencar. There are three statues scattered throughout the city: one at Iracema Beach, another at Mucuripe Beach, and the last at Lake Messejana. My favourite is the first, lit up at night. By the statue is a small craft market in the afternoons, and at night children and young people gather on scooters, skates and bikes.
