10 reviews of Ihlara Valley

Capadocia. Ilhara Valley

The Ilhara Valley contrasts with the aridity of Cappadocia, thanks to the river that runs through it, which helps make it a green orchard. There are several Christian churches that have been excavated from the rock, and you can hike anywhere from just a few hundred meters, up to 15 kilometers along the river.

Everything depends on the time. Called Peristrema in ancient times, the valley was the favorite place of refuge of the Byzantine monks. Along the river we see churches from the Melendiz troglodytes era with. Any tour of the Valley will go through the course of this river, and to go to other places is dangerous because of landslides, especially when it is not the summer.
