Medieval ruins
Next to the current church (which is also worth a visit), you'll find an old cemetery which is home to the ruins of what was once the original church of Tullibody. The old church was built in the medieval era (between the 12th and 14th centuries) and it ceased to be used with the construction of the modern church in the 19th century.
The ruins show a small, rural church notable for its location. You see, there are documents which reveal that it was a Christian site of worship since the 7th century founded by none other than St. Serf, one of the most celebrated Celtic saints.
The records at Cambuskenneth Abbey in Stirling show that this church was under his control, indicating that it was a church and possibly a place of pilgrimage due to the possible existence of a relic of the saint. Researchers do know the existence of an old stone which the saint used for prayer but which was destroyed inexplicably during the construction of a highway.
