Saints Gregory and Patrick
Just west of Whitehaven harbor, near the castle, you'll find a small church which has long served one of the most disadvantaged schools in the area. The Roman Catholic church is fully operational and while the interior is much more colorful than the outside, photos are strictly prohibited during visits. The curious thing about this church is that it has long been under the control of the Benedictine monks of the Priory of St. Bergh and Belmont Abbey, who are responsible for the Masses and all the events that occur at this local church. Don't forget that Whitehaven was one of the most important ports during the Dark Ages and that the abbeys basically functioned as feudal lordships.
