Iglesia de Santa Ana

La Iglesia de Santa Ana de Cracovia es uno de los mejores ejemplos de la arquitectura barroca en territorio polaco. Se encuentra en el casco histórico de la ciudad, y su construcción data del Siglo XIV. El sitio pertenece a la Arquidiócesis de Cracovia, que en 1381 expresó la necesidad de un recinto digno para la celebración de misas en la ciudad. Pocos años después de su inauguración –en el año 1407- un incendio redujo el edificio entero a cenizas. Con el apoyo del Rey Wladyslaw II, el sitio fue reconstruido rápidamente, incorporando además elementos del estilo Gótico a la estructura original. Además, la iglesia fue incorporada a la Universidad Jaguelónica, que desde entonces se encarga de la administración del lugar. En 1689, el edificio fue demolido para iniciar la construcción de un nuevo templo de estilo barroco con capacidad para más fieles. Es este el edificio que hoy podemos encontrar y visitar de manera gratuita. Dentro del edificio, las pinturas de Szymon Czechowicz son de gran importancia histórica, y representan principalmente escenas de la vida de Santa Ana. Estas datan del Siglo XVIII, y han sido conservadas gracias a los constantes trabajos de mantenimiento impulsados por la Universidad Jaguelónica.

The Church of Santa Ana Krakow is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in Poland. It is located in the historic center of the city, and its construction dates from the fourteenth century. The site belongs to the Archdiocese of Krakow, who in 1381 expressed the need for a worthy venue for the celebration of Mass in the city. A few years after its opening -in the year 1407- a fire reduced to ashes the entire building. With the support of King Wladyslaw II, the site was rebuilt quickly, and incorporating elements of the Gothic style to the original structure. In addition, the church was built at the Jagiellonian University, which since then is responsible for the administration of the place. In 1689, the building was demolished to begin construction of a new baroque temple can accommodate more faithful. This is the building that today we can find and visit for free. Inside the building, Szymon Czechowicz paintings are of historical significance, and mainly depict scenes from the life of Santa Ana.
